Hello Higher-Minded Humans,
This season is all about growing, brewing, and learning. One of the things I’ve been growing - thanks to the folks at Northspore - are different mushrooms. I tried my hand at growing golden oyster, blue oyster, pink oyster, and lion’s mane.
I’ve never cooked them before, so with the help of mushroom expert and friend Amy Donohue (check out her episode of GPPM where she discusses functional mushrooms), I put them in curry. I was pleasantly surprised. I also dehydrated the lion’s mane from the first flush (the second flush went haywire).
All in all, these spray and grow kits are super beginner friendly. Northspore provides very easy instructions and tip sheets, as well as an extensive recipe collection online. It was so easy, our 5-year-old actively participated in the watering every day.
I can’t recommend these grow kits enough! If you have a yard, you can get so much more out of them. Getting two flushes out of all of them except the golden is really awesome, considering I had never done this before. Not only was it a fun experience, but I got to use a brand from my hometown.
We’ll be getting more into what we’re growing and brewing in future issues, but until then, let us know your experience with grow kits in the comments!
