It's Not the Worst Holiday
Even though some view it as purely a Hallmark holiday, it's actually my favorite, so I'm gifting you a guide of stuff I'd love to receive on V Day.
I’m not a fan of the Hallmark channel or anything overly fuzzy or sentimental. But Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday because of the perfect balance of light and dark. It is a holiday with a dark history but has so much to celebrate.
It celebrates a time of innocence that other holidays don’t - I never bought the fictional characters and stories attached to Christmas or Easter. It represents a time when you’re learning about love and developing first crushes and being emboldened to express that with cute messages. It’s trying to decode candy hearts and lines in a tiny card to see if those feelings are returned.
Personally, the holiday means so much: my grandmother getting married to her 3rd (and my favorite) husband in the courthouse, wearing a sharp red pantsuit. It means receiving something special from my love and co-host, who always surprises me. And now I get to see it through the eyes of my child.
